Eastbourne Schools Partnership Rugby 10’s Tournament
12th – 19th March

Year 11
The year 11 team started off the Rugby packed week at Eastbourne Rugby Club. Unfortunately, the results didn’t go our way as Ratton struggled to get any points on the board. A valiant effort from the boys in blue and gold sadly wasn’t enough, but the team should hold their head up high when they narrowly lost their last game against a strong HCC team 5-0.
Year 11 squad: Ryan Hall, Sam Bowles, Jonny Chapman, Alex Miles, James Powell-Cullingford, Jamie Weston, Josh Perry, Fabio Almedia, Adam Riggs, Bradley Mays, Dan Mullis and Lukas Povilonis.

Year 10

Chester Duff and Charlie Mackay then both scored the points in a 10-0 win over Willingdon.
Year 10 squad: Joe Williamson, Chester Duff, Amro Hammer, Charlie Mackay, Jake Nash, Murat Koksal, Sam Smith, Luca Torrens-White, Sam Deadman, Jakub Swider and Jamie Taylor.

Year 9
The first game for the year 9 team saw plenty of trys. Jake Botting, Diogo Oliveira, Owen Davies, Sam Jones and Tom Groves all crossed the line to get the tournament up and running. A close game to start, then ended with a loss to Bishop Bell. Ratton’s final game against Hailsham ended in narrow defeat 12-7 with full back Jake Botting scoring Rattons try and Owen Davies drop kicking the conversion. The year 9 squad finished 4th overall.

Year 8
Rattons year 8 team were unlucky not to win any of their games, but scored 100% for commitment. Peacehaven, HCC and Seaford managed to keep Ratton at bay from scoring any points, but after a moment of magic and a breakaway run from Hani Sadat, Ratton were able to celebrate something. The team battled their way through every game and were unlucky not to score again.
Year 8 squad: Abdul Hammer, Huw Curry, Joe Hacker, Tom Bacon, Toby Hills, Malik Boudehane, Hani Sadat, James McDonald, Ethan Barry, Owen Stacey, Matt Langford and James Alsop.

The next game saw Ratton back to their winning ways with a comfortable 30-0 win against Tideway. Harry Colbran (3), Mason Dowle (2) and Angus Bingham scoring the well deserved trys. Willingdon then looked for revenge from their 41-17 loss several weeks ago, but the Ratton team were too strong. Cavendish then saw the Ratton team score 4 more tries against them which ended the tournament with Ratton finishing 3rd overall.

Year 7 Rugby - Ratton 17 – 7 Bishop Bell

The year 7 team were up for a real contest after taking part in their taster session with Eastbourne Rugby Club the day before. Their first ever game representing the school ended in a 17 – 7 victory over Bishop Bell after a hard battled encounter.

The first half saw the home team scoring a well deserved individual try from Angus Bingham after some decent support play from the forwards. This was then converted magnificently by Harvey Warren to end the half with Ratton leading 7-0. Harry Colbran then doubled the try count after he caught the ball from kick off, weaving his way through the Bishop Bell defence. Ratton conceded a try late on in the game, but there was still time for Mason Dowle to sprint the length of the pitch and leave the Bishop Bell players chasing shadows before he placed the ball down for another well deserved try.

The team should be proud of their efforts in their first ever game and look forward to their next encounter at home to Willingdon on Tuesday 6th March.

Eastbourne Rugby Club Visit Ratton School

On Wednesday 22nd March, Eastbourne Rugby Club ran a taster session for every year 7 boy at Ratton School. In 2 fun packed sessions, 10 experienced coaches developed players tackling, ball handling and decision making in order to improve their rugby skills. This was an enjoyable day for all pupils involved and it is hoped that more pupils from Ratton will start to engage themselves more heavily in Rugby, both at school and at Eastbourne Rugby Club. The Code of Rugby; Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship was clear to see by all pupils who tried their hardest to impress the coaches during the sessions. A big well done to Aiden Cooksey (7CWi) and Niki Moscoso-Crump (7CMp) who were chosen for their hard work and demonstration of the Code of Rugby by the coaches. They will both receive a match ball signed by the Eastbourne Rugby Football Club 1st Team squad.

If you’re interested in playing more Rugby at school, the Ratton Rugby Academy is on Tuesdays 3.15 – 4.15pm. Also, Eastbourne Rugby Club run their training sessions on Wednesdays 6.30 -8.00pm and play their games on Sunday mornings. Year 9 Rugby vs Bishop Bell

The first game of the Rugby season kicked off on Wednesday 1st February with the year 9 team hosting Bishop Bell. The bitter wind and conditions below freezing took its toll later on in the game for both players, but some decent rugby was on display. Tom Groves managed to score 2 tries in the second half, but this wasn’t enough to chase back the high score that the visitors secured before half time. Ratton continued to battle right until the end, even though it was clear that Ratton would end the game with a defeat. A valiant effort from the boys in blue and yellow.

20th October 2011

You may remember taking part in the cross-country run when you were at school? Slippery grass... cold weather... horizontal rain and plenty of mud. Not this time! The Ratton School Year 7 & 8 Cross Country event took place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th of October and was led by some of the BTEC PE pupils in year 10. Part of their ‘Planning and Leading’ unit looks at organising a sports event and the cross country came as the perfect opportunity. With the sun beaming down on the Ratton playing fields, the 1 mile course was set up and participants were briefed. It seemed like survival of the fittest at times with pupils negotiating the bustling start and windy route throughout the school grounds. BTEC pupils were on hand to help out the participants by directing them around the course and giving plenty of encouragement. The year 7 winners were Henri Wilder for the boys and Savannah Francis for the girls. Molly Hill and Jake Hobden took the winning positions in the year 8 competition.

Full results can be seen below:

Year 7 Boys
1st – Henri Wilder 5.08
2nd – Dylan Halpin 5.27
3rd – Dante Hutchinson 5.29

Year 7 Girls

Best of luck to these pupils who will represent Ratton School at the Eastbourne District Schools Cross Country Championships in November. A big congratulations must go to all of Mr Brooke's BTEC PE students for their excellent planning and leading of this successful event.
