Currently the Eastbourne Netball League is trying very hard to rasie funding to have the netball court playing surface at Hampden Park Sport Centre replaced, due to its unsuitability during wet/damp conditions. Your support would be very much appreciated, as this is a facility we regularly rely upon. Also this is a chance to make more primary pupils and secondary students aware of the netball opportunities that exist in the area.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!
The Ratton Boys arrived to see a large crowd gathered by the pitch and after a short warm up we were ready to begin.
The game began fast paced and it was Ratton who had the brighter start, with early chances from Julian Pareja and Harvey Storer being saved well by the Bishop Bell goalie. The defence of Max Penny, Ben Griffiths, Steve Powell and Scott Powell were untroubled during the first half until the final minute when a long free kick being headed onto the post and then trickling along the line, and to the horror of the lads, Ratton’s very own linesman Joe Watson flagged to signal the ball crossing the line, controversial with the lads, but probably the correct decision. 1-0 to Bishop Bell at half time.
This prompted Gaffer Mr Chaundy into making a half time sub bringing off Tom Gill who had been unfortunate down the right side, and was unable to unleash his pace on the left back. Luke Ticehurst came on, and made an instant impact getting down the right flank, driving into the box, but was adjudged to have dived under a heavy challenge from a defender, much to the delight of the 100 strong Bishop Bell crowd. Ratton kept pushing forward and after good running from Dom Dirico, pressuring the Bishop Bell defence, this allowed a good knock down from striker Hayden Reed to Luke who controlled the ball looked up to cross it, but decided to lob the goalie instead after spotting him way off his line. 1-1. Ratton were now winning everything all over the pitch, especially Ben Armin in midfield who managed to get a foot or his head to just about everything. After a long ball, midway through the half, Jack Richardson used his pace to get behind the defence and rifle a first time shot into the roof of the net from just inside the 18 yard box. This prompted wild celebrations from the Ratton boys. Again the same backline were holding out, but with three minutes to go, Bishop Bell equalised, again, their first real attack of the half. 2-2 and the final whistle meant extra time.
Extra time was very uneventful in front of goal for Ratton, but a good stop from goalie Joe Kenward, kept the scores level. Meaning penalties, but unfortunately Jack and Tom, who were both keen to take, were off the pitch at the time.
With the stakes high, the pressure on and heavy legged, Bishop Bell stepped up and forced a good save from Joe in goal, to instantly give Ratton the advantage. Luke stepped up and converted for Ratton, to take an early lead. Bishop Bell’s second penalty forced an even better save from joe, and put Ratton well in the driving seat. Dom and Ben both scored theirs to leave the scores at 3-1, Julian then had the chance to win, but his penalty was saved by the legs of the BB keeper. Bishop Bell then scored, but Ratton still had the chance to win through Harvey. A despairing hand from the keeper was not enough, and Ratton ran down the pitch to celebrate with Harvey, and hero of the moment Joe Kenward, right infront of the Bishop Bell faithful!
After 5 years, the boys finally got what they deserved a winners medal from the cup, that had evaded them for so long. Joe Kenward, Max Penny, Benjamin Arthur Robert Griffiths, Steven Powell, Scott Powell, Tom Gill, Ben Armin, Harvey Storer, Julian Pareja, Hayden Reed, Jack Richardson, Dom Dirico and Luke Ticehurst, and not to forget, Joe Watson, all played their parts today in arguably the greatest day Ratton school has ever seen. All dedications go down to Jay “Mourinho” Chaundy, whose tactical genius, played a huge part in the cup run.

Trampolinists bounce to victory
On Saturday 21st March eight budding trampolinists took part in the East Sussex Schools Trampoline Competition at Claverham School. Other schools from the local area included: Hailsham, Claverham, Helenswood, Battle Abbey and Hillcrest.
The competition was split into two sections:
Section A for the less experienced School trampolinist and section B for the more able club competitor. Both sections required each competitor to perform a compulsory and a voluntary routine which was judged according to the tariff (difficulty of moves) and quality of their performance.
Ratton entered 6 students for section A and 2 students for section B.
Section A:
Year7 – Emily Wilmer, Hannah King, Jack Lindsay, Katy Holter
Year8 – Samuel Hammond
Year11 – Alice Piper
Section B:
Year9 -Katy Lambert
Year 11 – Elle Lambert
All students had spent hours of practice preparing for the competition which is very nerve-racking on the day. They only have one opportunity to show each routine and tiny mistakes can make the difference between a medal position or not. It was particularly difficult for Katy Lambert who is in year9 and was drawn to compete in the section which included year 9, 10, 11 & 12, so some students were more than 3 years older than her. Both Katy and Ellie should be congratulated for reaching such a high level of performance. Even though they were not medallist winners this year, Ellie came 5th closely missing out and Katy was 10th in a very hard section which included National Champions!
The other students should also be congratulated for their efforts. Emily, Jack and Hannah who are all in year 7 competed for the first time and performed very well under the pressures of the competition.
Sam Hammond was awarded the gold medal in FIRST position and only challenged by fellow team- mate Jack Lindsay in year7 who was awarded silver SECOND position.
Katy Holter was not to be beaten by the boys and kept the girls morale high by receiving silver medal SECOND position
Well done to the whole team !!!!

South East Sussex Champions and onto the Beckham Academy!!!!!
Back in November 2008, the Year 7 Girls Football team competed in the area indoor 5-a-side competition and had a fantastic result, beating all the local schools. They continued on to become South East Sussex Champions.
From there the team were drawn to play the next round at the ‘Beckham Academy’ in London to decide which two schools would represent the South in the National Competition in February.
On Friday 23 January, the squad of eight had an unhealthy start to the day, leaving school at 7am for a three hour drive up to the Beckham Academy in London.
Once at the Academy, we were directed to walk down the hall of fame which featured autographed shirts, boots and cups owned by National and International football stars. Throughout the day, the girls posed in front of the many large scale pictures of Beckham which featured in nearly every room. This alone, was an experience for the players!
The competition had four leagues but we were drawn in the biggest section, having five other teams to play. In all matches we battled hard and moved the ball about with skills and energy, matching and bettering nearly all the teams in our section. Overall, we drew 2, won 2 and lost 1. Unfortunately we failed to score enough goals to go through to the semi final and finished third in our section. It was pleasing to see, however, that the two teams who beat us were eventually the top two teams in the competition, so as far as we are concerned we came third overall!!
The Year 7 team have had a very successful season and is made up of a very talented group of players. They deserve every success and are a credit to the school. Each player will receive a certificate and photo to remember the day.
Well done girls!!!

The Year 8 team managed by Mr Kingham played Hailsham Sports College too. It was a very close match with a number of the team representing the school for the first time this year. Special mention must go to Drew Read and Marcus Nicholas who both made an excellent contribution to an outstanding team performance.....
