Aims

• We want Students to engage with the past and to see its relevance to today.
• We help all students to experience using primary and secondary source material and to develop their skills in interpreting and understanding these forms of information.
• We hope students will enjoy finding out about past events in Britain and around the world.
• We aim to enable every child to access the lessons through a variety of teaching styles, a range of activities and differentiation to support each learner
• We teach skills for life-critical reading, reaching conclusions, investigative approaches, independence and teamwork.

Key Stage 3

This wide ranging course covers all the required elements of The National Curriculum and includes topics such as Medieval Britain, The Making Of The United kingdom, The Slave Trade, World Wars and The Holocaust.
From September 2008 History will also deliver Citizenship education in years 8 and 9. Topics include Rights and Responsibilities and Understanding Democracy.

Key Stage 4

History is an extremely popular option subject at Ratton with excellent GCSE results, including the highest percentage of A* grades in the school.

We offer the Edexcel 1336 syllabus (Schools History Project) GCSE.
This course is currently under review by the exam board but currently consists of two examination papers worth 75% of the marks and two pieces of coursework of 1500 words each, worth 25% of the marks.

Learn from one another and from your teacher
If you are interested in a topic do some investigating around it in your spare time.
Behave sensibly in lessons so that there is an atmosphere which helps learning.

A Visit From a Veteran
