Members of the Ratton School Community (students, teachers, governors and parents) can log into this website to view extra information and sections unavailable otherwise.

If you are a student or member of staff please use your school username and password. If you are a parent you will need to enter your email address and Ratton website password (which is different from Parents’ Gateway). If you do not yet have an account, please click here to register.


KS3 - Food

Design Technology - Food

Key Stage 3 students will spend part of time in food undertaking Focus Practical Tasks (FPT’s) followed by Design and Make Assignments (DMA’s), and will lead to the Sainsbury’s Active Kids Get Cooking Food Award Scheme in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Year 7

You Are What You Eat and Design and Make Assignment on Soup / Salad
Students look at food safety and hygiene, use of equipment and work through various Focus Practical Tasks, leading on to a Design and Make Assignment following the stages of the design process through a completed Design and Make Assignment, followed by entry to Active Kids Get Cooking - Bronze Award.

Year 8

Developing Skills through the Exploration of Materials by FPTs and Designing for Clients
Students develop their skills and design meals/dishes for specific client groups, following the stages of the design process, including FPT’s, while working through two complete DMA, followed by entry to Active Kids Get Cooking- Desserts (Bronze Award) and Pasta and Sauces (Silver Award)

Year 9

Developing Skills, Selecting Materials to Produce Quality Products, and Cultural Influences
Students will be designing and making products for specific groups. They will adapt recipes, look at packing, and learn how to make dishes in quantity. Students will work through FPT’s leading on to two complete DMAs; the first one being - Active Kids Get Cooking - Bread (Gold Award), followed by Foods of the World (Gold Award).
