Curriculum
An overview of the Curriculum offer for 2011-12
Please note that the Curriculum at Ratton is continually under review. The model outlined below is in place for 2011-12.
Year 7
Students follow courses in Maths*, English, Science, PE, ICT, Design Technology, History and Citizenship, Geography, Art, Music, Drama and PSHE, Dance, and Opening Minds (a skills-based course which also encompasses RE). All students study one language - French, German, or Spanish. All subjects, except Maths, are taught in mixed ability groups.
*In years 7, 8 and 9 Maths is taught in mixed age sets, based on students' ability not their age
Year 8
In year 8 students follow courses in all of the above except Opening Minds, and RE is taught separately.
Year 9
The majority of students in year 9 start the Core GCSE course in Science. They also follow the BTEC Performing Arts Course which encompasses Dance, Drama, and Music. In Design Technology, students choose to study two of either Food Technology, Textiles, Resistant Materials, or Graphics.
Years 10 and 11
All students study the Ratton core curriculum comprising of English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science, Ethics, PSHE and Citizenship, ICT and PE. For most students this leads to 7 GCSE’s.
In addition, students are guided in their choice of a further three options, from a wide range of subjects. A small number of students are guided towards a vocational pathway, choosing from a range of courses with local providers.
